Identifying Needs vs. Wants
Needs
A need is something you NEED in order to stay ALIVE
Example: Food, water, a place to live
Wants
A want is something you WOULD LIKE to have but can live WITHOUT
Example: Fast food, eating out, name brand clothes
How to Identify Needs vs. Wants when Grocery Shopping
When grocery shopping you can make decisions and swaps to still get the nutrition you need without the price tag. Just because it doesn’t “look good” like canned chicken, doesn’t mean you can’t eat it, mix it into a pot pie and know one will have to know!
Those pre-cut fruits and vegetables, pre-cut apples and celery sticks. The works done for you but, now you have to pay extra because of it. Take a little time out of your day to chop your own fruits and vegetables to save some money!
Love sugary cereal? We all do! Make the swap over to yogurt and add some berries, granola and a drizzle of honey on top and you’ll have that sweet tooth cured in no time!
How to know what Vegetables and Fruits are in Season
You can refer to this graphic below and even print it out to hang on the fridge. When vegetables and fruits are in season they are generally lower in price because they are harvesting them at that point in time. When buying fresh produce always check if you can get it cheaper in the frozen section!
